China will have as many ICBMs as U.S. : SIPRI Report (Current Affair)- short notes

Context:- SIPRI has released its annual report on June 12, 2023. It says that there are 9 countries in world who have nuclear stockpiles.

What does the report say ?

  • China increased its nuclear arsenal to 410 in 2023 from 350 in 2022.
  • Pakistan increased from 165 in 2022 to 170 in 2023.
  • India from 160 in 2022 to 164 in 2023.
  • China will have as much ICBMs (Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles) U.S. or Russia in next one decade.
  • The total global inventory has as many as 12,512 warheads as off January, 2023, out of which 9576 were in military stockpiles for potential use. 
  • U.S and Russia have almost 90% of global nuclear weapons.

What is SIPRI ?

  • SIPRI stands for Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. 
  • It is an independent international institute dedicated to research into conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament. 
  • Established in 1966, SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public.

Founder - Vijayalaya . He captured Tanjore in 850. The greatest Chola ruler was Rajaraja (985-1014) and his son Rajendra-I (1014-1044) Rajaraja destroyed Chera navy and Trivandrum , and attacked Quilon .
